Established to reach out to Rhode Island residents impacted by the historic flood of 2010, RI HOPE was jointly funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The program was administered by the Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals (BHDDH). RI HOPE's mission was to help individuals and communities recover from the effects of the flooding disaster by offering community-based outreach, direction, emotional support, and educational services.
Who needed help?
It is estimated that as many as 8,500 to 9,000 citizens may have faced challenges due to the flood. The RI HOPE program was designed to empower those affected by educating them about common disaster reactions, teaching them coping skills, assessing them for individual needs, and linking them to appropriate community resources.
Who we served
RI HOPE served individuals, families, and small business owners throughout Rhode Island who were affected by the historic flooding of 2010.
